NIU 1.0
Nothing is Unreal was West Africa's first fully immersive art installation,
happening in December 2023 at Sol Beach Oniru in Lagos, Nigeria
Lagos is a concrete jungle, but it's actually in the middle of a real jungle that's been paved over.
But as human beings, we crave serenity, we crave nature and its calm symphony.
We crave vibrant colours, we crave fresh air, we crave a place where we can lie down and feel at peace.
So, together with 15 artists, over 50 artisans and venue and equipment supporters, we created a surreal Lagos where exactly that could happen.
And we did, every single person who experienced the exhibition felt something.
The boundaries between the digital and physical worlds were blurred. Through the use of projection mapping, soundscapes and compositions, holographic lighting, motion detectors and, most importantly, the addition of a specially developed scent, a hand-crafted sculpture and a nature-inspired set design.
The exhibition created a multi-sensory environment that allowed visitors to feel as if they were part of an alternate world where the hustle and bustle stopped and dreams could rise.
